This weekends football
Flockton welcomed Cartworth to the Stadium of Gloom on Satursday. From the start it was obvious that the very strong wind was to make playing good football difficult. Flockton were first on the scoresheet after 10 minutes when a good Richard Coates run down the right found Nathan Appleyard who scored from close range. Cartworth had the opportunity to equalise on the half hour when they were awarded a penalty following hand ball by Andy Cooke but Malcom Lockwoods spot kick was well saved by Mark Bentley.
Flockton played up the slope with the wind in the second half and soon extended their lead. Nathan Appleyard was upended by adam Brooksbank and he got up to score from the spot. Cartworth continued to play good football but they were unable to convert at least three good chances. It was Flockton who went further ahead on the hour with a good header from Mark Moorhouse who scored from a Craig Smith corner. Cartworth again pressed forward and were rewarded with an Adam Lindley goal ten minutes from the end, but Appleyard put the final nail in the coffin with a 40 yard wind assisted goal to complete his hat trick.
The second team had six players missing at the Mount A but Ammo's army came away with a creditable 2 - 2 draw with goals from Steven Hant and Chris Dobson
