Sun 02 Dec 2007  League
Meldreth United 3
Fulbourn Rovers 6
Jamie Jones (5)
Own Goals (1)

Today rovers were back in league action with a tricky game away to lower league side meldreth united.Rovers were down to bare bones with key players missing so a re-shuffle of the team see richard hooks play in midfield with mike henderson and ian sabberton a unusual trio and with ian mcgaughlin making a rare apearance at right back and andrew wright left back and in between them mike osbourn and ian grimshaw again a back 4 that has never played together and with darren burch in the sticks inproving every game left top scorer jamie jones up front on his own.
With the pitch holding well considering the deluge, rovers started brightly, the calling and confidence was in evidence.Rovers with all the pressure took a deserved lead through a great jonsey header after ten minutes.
Meldreth could not contain rovers and they went further behind again jonsey scoring who was set up by paul morley finished well from 12 yards 2-0 to rovers. Meldreth trying to get into the game were then caught on the break and rovers won a corner, the ball floated in by paul morley took a fortunate deflection and somehow crept through the meldreth goalkeeper 3-0 to rovers.
With the game nearing half time rovers seemed to take there foot of the gas and with 15 minutes remaining of the half Meldreth got themselves back into it a well worked through ball saw Darren burch beaten but no blame on his part as his calling and confidence seemed to be showing. Jonsey then after being asked to get one before half time obliged with a scramble in the box,at half time rovers deserved to be going in at 4-1.

Wind now facing rovers the half time team talk was to keep the ball down and play to feet.
After 5 minutes of the second half rovers with this instruction carried it out to perfect effect.A brilliant premiership like pass from richard hooks who was covering for the injured phil crickmore found jonsey who once again finished brilliantly to make it 5-1, Meldreth then seemed to up the gears and nearly pulled one back but for a superb save from rovers goalkeeper darren burch who tipped round the post. All credit to meldreth who kept on fighting but today rovers were not to be denied.
Once again it was that man jamie jones who added his fifth another sublime finish after a great build up.
With the pitch cutting up and getting muddy in areas meldreth who did not lack heart scored against the run of play with ten minutes left a good through ball beat the offside trap and the meldreth forward neatly finished.Rovers with the hard work done let a clumsey goal in right at the death to make the score 3-6 to rovers.

Well played to meldreth who just would not give in today But in truth they met a rovers side today full of passion comittment and desire.Well done to my players today it was enjoyable from where i was standing so i hope you the players enjoyed it as much as i did.
