The aim of the season was to avoid relegation. We knew it was going to be tough but we succeeded. We finished 4 points above the relegation zone and in 10th place, however with performances nearer the end of the season, we could have finished alot higher. A local double header against Hayfield opened the season, with Furness gaining 6 points with two well deserved 4-3 victories, which unfortunatley didn't count at the end of the season. A dissapointing 3-0 loss away at Totley gave them advantage in the relegation battle, in what proved to be one of their few wins of the season. An entertaining game against fellow relegation candidates Brampton which finished 6-5, proved that we had the ability to stay up. 3 losses and a draw before the christmas break meant that we would have a tough second half to the season. We managed to gain 3 points against Totley and 6 points against Bakewell Town, both of which were relegation rivals. Then we played two games back to back against Dronfield Town A, gaining a valuable point in the home tie. We then faced the toughest time of the season, when we had to play the top 5 teams in the last 5 games. A poor performance againt the champions Whaley Bridge was followed by a memorable victory at Harpur Hill, with player's player of the year George Seddon scored a brilliant 90th minute winner. Dove Holes then beat us 3-0, which didn't reflect the game, of which a bad 5 minute spell cost us. Then another giant killing was to follow. A great 2-1 win against league runners-up Buxton Town, in which goal machine Nick Wood scored a 90th minute winner. A good season was finished off with a loss against Dronfield Woodhouse, in which we were 3-0 up but a second half blitz from Woodhouse made the score 6-3.
If we can play at a standard like we did in the wins against Harpur Hill and Buxton Town, we should have a very good season!
