Back to winning ways for Athletic with a hard fought victory played in very windy conditions.

Due to work, injuries etc Athletic only had 12 players available. The wind ruined any chance of decent football & neither goalkeeper had much to do in a scrappy 1st half. Renfrew had a half chance from an early corner, but the ball was cleared after a scramble in the 6 yard box after Simmons had blocked a header with his legs, that in truth he knew little about.

The only other close thing was when Barret tried a long range shot which deflected off a defender, high into the air which the Renfrew keeper misjudged and the ball bounced up onto the underside of the bar.

HT 0-0.

The 2nd half kicked off & follwed a similar pattern to the first. Athletic appeared to have a good penalty shout turned down after McGeogh, making a rare start, beat the keeper to a through ball & was pole axed by the keeper. Strangely the ref awarded a goal kick. Athletic had most of the play & deservedly took the lead when Dragnes headed home a vCooper corner. It may have hit a defender on the way in, but the Drag Artist claimed the goal.

1-0 & for the rest of the game, Renfrew played high balls into and around the area which the back 4 & Simmons dealt with comfortably.

Full Time 1-0.

A good 3 points with a depleted squad & back to winning ways.

Web MOTM - Micheal again marshalled the backline superbly. Todd & Cooper ran him close though.
