Hazelhead United 2
GLENDALE XI 6
David Murray (3)
Steve Gordon (3)

Hazelhead were first to attack in this Post xmas match, D. Gordon doing well to push the ball passed the post for a corner in the 3rd minute. He also took control of is area from the resulting corner, coolecting the ball well before dispatching it quickly to Banks who had stayed up front, his flick forward was controlled by D MURRAY before dispatching the ball low into the net in the 4th minute. although 1-0 down Hazelhead were in attacking mood and D Gordon pulled of another fine save in the 8th minute. A Great passing move between Banks and D MURRAY saw them cut the Hazelhead defence wide open and the latter scored his and Glendale's second of the game in the 22nd minute. Hazelhead again made D Gordon in the Glendale goal work a stunning shot looked goal bound before the keeper lept to his left to somehow push the ball out for a corner, and yet again he claimed the resulting cross. D Murray came close to scoring his hat-trick in the 35th minute his shot stinging the hands of the Hazelhead goal keeper before being cleared. Glendale were awarded a penalty in the 37th minute, a cross ball into the box was missed by the first defender,S Gordon was about to pull the trigger before the ball struck the hand of a Hazelhead player, it seemed a harsh decision, but D Murray wasnt complaining as if he scored it would be his Third hat-trick of the season. However justice was maybe done when the keeper dived low to his right to save the resulting kick. Glendale were not to be denied their third goal however and what a strike it was, there seemed little dangerin the 40th minute when Glendale were awarded a throw in about 20 yards out from the goal line, Banks threw the ball to McLeod whos back flick was met on the volley by S GORDON and the Hazelhead goalkeeper could only watch as the ball fizzed by him and into the net. Glendale were not finished yet however as D MURRAY went on to complete his perfect hat-trick, a superb cross by Banks was met by Murray who powered his header passed the helpless goalkeeper.

Half time 0-4

Despite the game being almost a lost cause for Hazelhead they came out fighting at the start of the second half, with D GOrdon having to look lively to save 2 early second half efforts. However Glendale were caught napping in the 52nd minute a quick free kick was sent over the top and the Hazelhead striker finished weel blasting the ball into the net passed a diving Glendale keeper. This goal seemed to awaken Dale from their second half slumber and they came close to adding to their lead. Glendale were forced into a substitution when J Murray was forced to leave the field of play because of work commitments. L Merson taking over his role. Glendale extended their lead in the 62nd minute. A corner for Hazelhead was broken up and the clearence was picked up by D Murray just inside his own half he lobbed the ball over the defense S GORDON got to it first despite the attentions of a defender and the keeper before steering the ball into the empty net. It was S GORDON's turn to notch up his hatrick in the 75th minute, cleverly beating the offside trap before lashing the ball home with his left foot. Hazelhead pulled a goal pack in the 80th minute, in a bizzare penalty incident. Glendale's McClure had taken a knock leaving with a dead leg, as the ball went out for a corner to Hazelhead, the referee went over to him to see if he needed treatment, in the mean time Hazelhead had taken their corner and swung the ball into the box, Mcleod catching the ball and explaining a player was down injured, the referee thing that the player was suffering cramo awarded a prnalty to hazelhead for hand ball. D Gordon was sent the wrong way in the Glendale goal and the score was now 2- 6 Glendale XI. A Mazey run by SMITH nearly extended Glendale's lead in the 85th minute, he broke through several tackles before passing the ball to D Murray, his shot was well saved by the Hazelhead keeper. S Gordon was next to try his luck in the 87th minute but again the goalkeeper denied the striker and keeping the score line respectful.
Final Score 2 - 6
Glendale will no doubt be the happier of the two teams having most of the game, their defense of Croll, Murray Smith & McClure looked very assured whilst at the other end the strikers both scored hat-tricks, but special mention must go to the midfield men Leiper, Brown, McLeod & Banks who ran the game and helped both defense and attack when needed.
So Glendale XI go into the new Year in a strong position in the league, nut they also know that the hard work begins here and they will have to be more consistant if they are to be challenging for the title come May/ June.
