Glens travelled to Vale of Leven with a depleted squad with only 2 substitutes and had to field midfielder Stuart Logan in goals as regular stopper Willie Boyd was unavailable.Despite this they still managed to field a strong starting team and had the better chances in the first half hour. Daryl Still was through on goal on two occassions but was crudely tackled -amazingly with the opposition defenders escaping without even a caution.
Logan in goals had a couple of decent saves to keep Glens in the game before Haldane scored on 35 mins from some slack defending. Glens hit back immediately and equalised within two minutes. Scott Gordon controlling a great pass from midfield before driving on and coolly beating the goalie from around ten yards.Half time 1-1.
Within ten minutes of the restart Glens troubles were compounded when left back McBrearty saw red for a second booking. Haldane then had a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot when Thompson was adjudged to have handled in the box. Logan though dived full length to parry the shot and smothered at the 2nd attempt. Haldane though took the lead ten minutes later and it looked like a lost cause for Glens as the ten men struggled to keep Haldane at bay. With ten minutes to go Glens pushed forward and sacrificed a defender to push for an equaliser. Substitute Gary Duthie nearly grabbed the equaliser when he had two attempts off the post from close range , and the Haldane keeper then pulled off a tremnedous save from Thompson. The keeper was left with no chance though when McVey smashed home an unstoppable volley from 18 yards with only 5 minutes to go.Haldane were reduced to ten men also in the last seconds of the game . Glens couldn-t find a winner but this was a spirited performance and ensures that they continue their recent fine run of form.Special mention goes to Stuart Logan in an unaccustomed role in goals and also to central defensive paring of Jordan Christe and Zack Hood who limited Haldane-s forwards chances. Next up for Glens is a home tie at the Bog Park , Kilbarchan (230pm kick off) this Sunday against one of the league leaders Shawventus.
