Trelawny Youth Football Club was first set up at the end of the 2006/07 season after NYCFC u11 Colts were told they had to merge with the Newquay u11 A team. As the Colts wanted to stay together their parents decided to look into forming a new youth football club in Newquay.
So, during the summer of 2007, they held some meetings, found a pitch, affiliated with the FA, joined Kernow League, advertised for new players to move up to eleven a side, bought the kit and so was born The Trelawny Colts.
The Colts first season in Kernow League was tough. For some unknown reason the League put them in the top division and the opposition turned out to be just too good.
The team only managed to score one point all season which was a draw with their arch rivals Newquay A.
But the lads toughed it out without complaint and gained valuable experience and by the end of the season the squad had grown from twelve to seventeen players.
During the off season the committee ensured that the league moved the lads down to the lower division so that they could build up their confidence by being able to compete with their opposition.
This worked well as the lads developed into a great team that fought hard to the final whistle and gave the opposition a game every week resulting in 7 wins and 7 losses in the league and fourth place overall with the squad growing to nineteen players.
The team was also asked during the off season to change it's name to include Godolphin to help them raise more funding which will benefit both teams and therefore we became the Godolphin Colts.
The aim at the start of the third season was to try and win promotion to the top league. It didn't start very well losing our first match but just after Christmas the lads had won 8 out of their 11 matches and progressed to the semi finals of the Kernow Cup.
Their seventh game in the league was a win over the league leaders and gave great hope that our original aim could be achieved.
Unfortunately they were defeated in the semi final of the cup but did manage to finish third in the league, one place better than the previous season.
The season didn't start well with the lads losing their first three matches but things started to look up as they won their next two including a win against Ludgvan who they lost to on the first day of the season and a win in the league cup to reach the semi final.
The boys won their semi-final, 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw against Hayle, to reach their first final against league leaders Rapid Charlestown. They lost in the final but really enjoyed the occasion travelling to the game by coach dressed in shirts and ties.
In the end the team ended at the bottom of the league after two of the teams they had beaten dropped out before the end of the season.
