Greatham continued their positive start to 2010 with another home win in the league against Bishop Auckland in very heavy conditions.
Early pressure from Greatham down both wings soon resulted Jamie Halliday’s strike on goal that was thwarted by the Bishop Auckland keeper.
Greatham’s defense and midfield remained solid with some excellent one-two passing on many occasions which was very entertaining for the spectators.
Daniel Temperley picked up an early injury, though thankfully believe this to be only minor.
Greatham won most of the aerial challenges with Sam Dobson, Alan Harrison and Joe Brownless particularly making their intentions known with good loud call outs. Max Corbett recently returned from injury and played well in central defence and it was good to see Jonny Wood back on full power.
Bishop Auckland came close to scoring and actually got the ball in the net though the referee was well positioned and noted this was offside.
Jamie Halliday excelled in midfield and won most of the 50/50 balls and also sent the ball back into the opponents half with a number of good headers. Joe Brownless showed particular skill by taking down a Callum Douglas kick whist running towards the Bishop Auckland goal, this led to a goal mouth scramble and Greatham were unlucky not to score just before half time. Half time 0-0.
In the second half Greatham continued the good passing with Alan Harrison, Adam Thompson and Andrew Holme stringing some entertaining moves together.
James Hogan came close to scoring on a number of occasions though the Bishop Auckland defense were clinically protecting their area making this very difficult to get close to goal.
10 minute before full time it was looking like the outcome was going to be a draw then Bradley Green had a magnificent run down the right beating a number of players and sending Adam Thompson on for a goal scoring opportunity. Adam took the ball around the keeper and finished clinically making it 1-0 to Greatham.
Final score 1-0, well done lads, that was an entertaining game with some excellent passing, keep it up.
Looks like Alex Blackwood is going to be out for at least the next 6 weeks with damaged knee ligaments, we hope it’s not too painful and to see you back soon Alex.
