PART 1
Greatham Soccer School, as it was originally known, was started by Kevin Oram and David Newton in the summer of 2000, Kevin and David had spent many successful years as team mates at Greatham Bull & Dog F.C. and had talked (and talked) about organising some coaching sessions for youngsters as a way of putting something back into the game that had gave them so much over many years.
Adverts where placed around Greatham Village and the Fens Estate and on Saturday 19th September 2000. The first training session took place with hardly any equipment, 26 children turn up for what was planned to be a regular training session and nothing more - how wrong could we be?
The one thing we never anticipated was how keen they all were to form a team and play a match, not knowing anything about the local junior leagues we did a bit of homework and decided to give it a go. We (me and David) both realised that if we got involved in managing the team, then the training sessions would end as we would be will the team, that is still the case today, so hands up who wants to be coach? Fortunately two parents came forward to run the team and Greatham F.C. was up and running.
