DYNAMO GO DOWN FIGHTING IN THE SCOTTISH
Greenhills Dynamo's Scottish Cup dream ended after going down 4-3 after extra time to Central Scottish Side Stedfast at Bearsden on Saturday.
Both teams made a decent start to the match and there were chances at both ends early on which went unpunished but Dynamo took the lead after 13 mins when Stedfast conceded a foul in a central postion about 25 yards from goal.
Jordan McIntosh took it left footed and bent it into the keepers top right hand corner. It was so well placed the keeper didn’t move.
Unfortunately, Dynamo didn’t hold on to this lead for very long as we conceded a goal from a long throw as they did to tie the game in the last minute the previous week. The long throw was knocked down fom their striker to advancing midfielder who smashed the ball into the net from close range.
Both sides continued to look dangerous throughout the first half and chances were created at both ends but an even 1-1 was how it finished at half time.
Second half was much of the same with full blooded commitment from both sides who were very evenly matched.
Three superb saves from Craig Whyte kept out good chances for Stedfast and Dynamo were a little wasteful themselves in the final third.
Dynamo went 2-1 up halfway through 2nd half when again a Jordan McIntosh free-kick caused the trouble. The keeper spilled his 20 yard drive and Willie McPhilemy pounced on the chance to finish and made it 2-1.
Stedfast fought hard for the equalizer and got it with just 8 mins to go before full time. Dynamo conceded a foul throw of all things on the right hand side and a quick break from Stedfasts left resulted in the ball being squared and an easy tap-in for the striker.
Extra time got under way and Dynamo immediately made it 3-2. A superb through ball put top scorer Garry O’Hanlon 1 on 1 with the keeper and his delicate chip floated over the keeper and into the net.
Controversy soon followed as Barry Devine was left out cold from an opposition players elbow to the forehead. Not only did the ref not stop the game for our player out cold on his back, Stedfast continued forward into our half, played a man into our box and only a poor finish from him meant they didn’t equalize. Devine had to come off and Assistant Manager John Ledwith got himself in trouble after a furious bust up with the ref for not stopping the game despite being asked to do so by Dynamo players.
Dynamo then conceded another poor goal from a acorner as Stedfast full back was left unmarked in our 6 yard box for free header and 3-3.
Again, Dynamo were left furious by a refereeing decision which this time knocked them out the cup.
A Dynamo attack was broken up by Stedfast defence and a long ball sent forward to their striker. Two other Stedfast players were 10-15 yards offside and walking back into play. The other striker controlled the ball and advanced on Whyte before squaring to one of the two who were miles offside and he rolled the ball into the net.
Garry O’Hanlon hit the post right at the death which would have taken the game to penalties.
Verdict: Great effort from the boys considering Hughes, S Cullie, D Cullie, Hamilton, Miller, Young, Livingston and Donnelly were all out
