Focus on Grindleton Football Club

Grindleton Football Club came into existence in 1967 following the amalgamation of local amateur league teams The Buck Inn and Bashall Eaves. Initially, the playing surface was on the opposite side of Sawley Road, possibly on the site currently the home of Grindleton Cricket Club although in recent years, pitches by the river near Grindleton Bridge and at West Bradford Village Hall have also been used. Significant and ongoing groundworks on the current playing surface, to resolve drainage issues, have been undertaken by the Club and the playing surface is recognised as one of the better ones currently in the Craven League. Following amalgamation, the newly enlarged playing membership enabled two teams, playing in the Ribble Valley League to be sustained until the Ribble Valley League folded in the early 1970's. At that time, Grindleton Football Club migrated to the Craven and District Football League and has continued in this league to the present time. Two teams play a full part in Saturday League and Cup fixtures, the 1st X1 in the Premier Division and the Reserves in Division 2. The Club has always sought to actively encourage local playing membership, contributes actively to community based activities and benefits from a stable management structure which should ensure its continuing success in the future
