Report

Halton ended Runcorn Town-s unbeaten home record this season and avenged Tuesday-s Pyke Cup defeat with a 2-1 victory in today-s league game.

Halton started really well and threatened immediately with Craig Ireland hitting the bar with the ball going over following a corner from the right.

Another corner after 14 minutes put the visitors ahead with Liam Page-s cross creeping in at the near post with Runcorn Towns keeper unable to keep it out.

Runcorn Town started to create chances and Halton were unlucky to concede after 40 making it 1 all. Halton continued press and almost took the lead into half time with a last ditch tackle stopping Joe McCartney.

After an inspirational half time team talk Halton took the field in the second half eager to get their nose-s infront, and they retook the lead two minutes in the second half with Page the provider this time. He got away down the right hand side despite the home side wrongly protesting for offside, with Gary Tyrrell stroking Page-s low cross into the net.

Town created little of note with Halton keeper Neil Percival stopping Town-s best effort when he twice saved from just after the hour mark.

Despite Runcorn Town pushing for an equiliser it was Halton who could have added to their tally with Paul Hives- free kick coming back off the left hand post and substitute Ray McDonald somehow hitting the ball wide when it looked easier to score.

Overall it was a good day, with Halton worthy winners in a derby which they ultimately wanted to win more.
