Albion FC History
17 Aug 2011

Albion FC were formed in 2008 by Denis Brown, originally receiving the team as a birthday present from his father. The team was voted in at the AGM - and began life in the Hartlepool Sunday League Division 2.

Following a hugely successful pre-season which saw some excellent results, Albion began the season high in confidence - and won their first ever competitive league game 3-2 against Engineers away from home. The season however, progressively got worse.

This win was one of four registered all season, as in 18 league games - Albion were beaten 10 times. The biggest hammerings came against L&L Joinery (8-2) and Workingmens Club (7-1), although Albion also faltered by the same scoreline difference in the cups (7-1 vs Snooker Centre and Greensides). It was not an enjoyable opening season, and following a drastic fall in available players over the christmas, the team almost folded before Christmas. They did however stick the season out, and although not something to brag about - they managed to claw themselves from the foot of the table.

Approaching 2009-2010, Albion invested in a number of new players and got off to a flyer. They won their first five games of the season, kept their first ever clean sheet (vs Corner Flag) and were high on confidence. Amazingly, following their good start, the Albion Cup jinx sparked a six game losing street, dropping vital points to Dyke House Warriors and Corporation Welfare. Results throughout Christmas continued to be inconsistent, and the founder of the club decided to step down.

Centre Back Adrian Hall then took over the club, made a few signings in January - but even he struggled to inspire the team back to form. A draw against strugglers Rugby in his opening fixture was followed by a string of poor results. He did however manage to finish the season with a five game winning streak - as the team finished 6th in the league that season.

Albion approached the new season very hopeful of reaching promotion. An indifferent pre-season was combated with a couple of great new signings, and the season kicked off in style with an 8-2 victory over Dyke House Warriors. The Albion continued to grind out some good results and remained within the top four for the whole season, although approaching Christmas the entire squad was involved in an alcohol fueled booze up - which led to a humiliating 6-2 loss against a team that was beaten week in and week out.

Following this result, management changed hands - and original founder Denis Brown took back the reigns of the club. Denis managed to guide the side to some important results, and secured 3rd position for the club - which ultimately led to promotion into Hartlepool Sunday League Division 2.
