Halas Hawks 2 v 4 Hasbury Rangers
The second meeting of the teams within a week, meant we all knew what each other was about. With Hasbury winning last week’s encounter, with a score line that slightly flattered them, we knew that Halas would be up for the challenge to avenge the result on their home pitch. The game started tensely and neither side could really get hold of the ball and Halas made the more early running albeit slightly, however, as the half wore on Hasbury started to boss proceedings and should have opened the scoring when Jordan Harris found himself open in the 6 yard box, only to miscue his shot with the net gapping. That seemed to be the only really glimpse of goal for either team in the cagey first half, that was until Hasbury won a free kick late in the half just outside the area for a reckless challenge. Jimmy Williams stepped up and hit his trademark free kick into the roof of the net, with the keeper only just getting his hands to it, but not enough to prevent the goal.
Half time 0-1
Again like last week, Hasbury came out firing from the beginning of the second half, and with the first 10 minutes, were 3 goals up, Adam Smith getting on the end of a good move and firing home into the bottom corner from the edge of the box first, then George Taylor cut inside from the right and unleashed a left footed shot that the keeper could only watch as it sailed into the net. Hasbury let up a little thereafter and Halas rightly began to get back into the game, bad defending from a Halas corner allowed them to reduce the deficit to 3-1. This seemed to spark a bit of life back into Hasbury as we were now only midway through the 2nd half and the game was far from won. The next goal proved to be one of Hasbury best of the season so far, we 5 players involved in a move that produced some lovely one touch football, the final ball fell to Jimmy Williams and from about 12 yards out he smashed a shot that the keeper could only palm into the net due to its ferocity. Hasbury then really did let up and the final 5 minutes or so became a tense and nervous affair, this after Halas decided to go for broke and seem to play 4 up front. They got a second goal after some lazy challenges from Hasbury resulted in their forward getting on to a loose ball in the box and placing it into the far corner to make it 2-4. Hasbury saw the remainder of the game out and register their 2nd win of the week.
A very good and competitive game again between the teams and one Hasbury were grateful to win to grab the points.
Man of the match went to George Taylor
