A lot hinged on this final game of the season for Harlow and Hawkwell. As the winner would secure either runners up or the Champion's place.
The weather was kind and the Harlow pitch was excellent as was the hosting teams hospitality.
The first few minutes were edgy until both teams settled into the task in hand.
On the fourth minute a brilliant lob shot from Hawkwell captain Paida, put the travelling team ahead. This seemed to unsettle Harlow with Hawkwell sensing an advantage, controlling midfield and pushed on for a second goal scored again by Paida, a thirty yard screamer in the top left hand corner, which left the goalie no chance.
Harlow made many chances of their own but with a formidible midfield of Chris, Paida, Jess Verity and Ria and a solid united defence of Lotti, Emma A, Rachael and Saffra, Harlow struggled to made a positive impact.
Minutes before half time the game seemed beyond Harlows reach as Hawkwell scored their third goal of the match. A great through ball from Chris found Charlie W in space who then ran on to smash the ball into the top right hand corner leaving Harlow seemingly blighted. This fantastic shot form Charlie seemed to have won the game.
BUT early on in the second half Harlow made a great fight back, opening up the Hawkwell defence which let Harlow have a shot on target , a cracking shot leaving Hawkwell goalie - Amy, stranded with no chance of a save.
Now it was Hawkwell's moment to get nervous as this goal seemed to wake up the game and a belief in Harlow that they could come back.
A resolute Hawkwell defence held firm with Emma B coming on to strengthen the midfield and hold Harlows increasing advances at bay. Although Hawkwell could of extended their lead, credit must go to Harlow for their equally determined defence.
Although the score indicates a comfortable win for Hawkwell, it was a great match played in good spirit by both sides and underlines the closeness of the league positions.
Credit must go to both sides with CONGRATULATIONS to Hawkwell Athletic Ladies, who in their first season at this level, played with true determination and character to secure their promotion to Division One as runners up.
