Final league game finds Div 3 winners, Heathrow Seniors FC vs Neamen cup winners, Cardinal Manning Old Boys FC. Dean, Mark G, Mark G, Yours Truly, Dan. Steve, Ashley, Charles, Jay. Martin, Lawrence. Alan (flu) and Joe (injured) on the bench. From the off the oppo seemed more up for the game and the first half seemed to be 80% in our half. The defence had their hands full with the two oppo forwards who used their strength well. We had very few chances and only one real clear cut one when the ball fell to Jay inside the box but seemed to simply tap it to the keeper. The oppo had height and used it well all over the park and as the game progressed so did the determination to press. First half saw about four cleared off our line, four wood work coming to our rescue and only about four chances for us. Moment of the game saw Charles flip the ball over a oppo-s head, three times and all that was missing was the volley finish, but a neat move. A frustrating half for the oppo but 0-0 it stayed. The second half was much the same thing except we did press with more purpose and a couple of good runs by Steve failed to find the tap in that his cross goal pA*Ses deserved. Again the oppo had about 70% of the ball in our half and again clearances and the wood work came to our rescue. Joe came on for Charles and a quick switch around to our normal positioning, except YT out of position on the left. We did get more attacks in but the oppo defence were solid and we seemed to be pressed back even more. Around the 80th minute an attack down our left found a cross in to the box reach two free oppo and a simple header headed in before the merest of touches by Ashley directed it on to the bar (yet again) only to fall to the oppo winger who was free to slot home from about 8 yards. 0-1. We pressed and another Steve run was sent across the goal line and Martin-s side foot hit the defender and then the keeper, close call but we were kept out. A good game and the right team won who were more -up for it- then us and we were not really at our best.
