FORCE TEN FROM RODDYMOORE
HIGH winds forced Heighington into submission against a superior Roddymoor side who found themselves 5-1 up at half time following several wind assisted strikes.
Heighington's latest recruit, Phil Smith, gave the visitors an unlikely lead when he pressurised the Moor's shaky back four before a neatly tucking the ball away. Sadly that would be Heighington's only real opportunity, and one that Smith created for himself.
Heighington too often opted for long balls, an uncharacteristic approach that was as ineffective in the second half as it was futile, against the wind, in the first.
Roddymoor were unquestionably the better side. More organised, more controlled and passed the ball better, they were good value for the eight goals they scored. However, with Heighington clinging to a 1-3 deficit, a far from insurmountable gulf with a wind assisted second half to come, centre half John Armitage sprained his ankle and with it damaged any hope of a revival.
With no substitutes to fill in, an ever more disorderly looking Heighington found life against a tough home side increasingly difficult. The ten men battled on but were glad to hear the final whistle. This season has been poisoned by bad luck, poor form and a general lack of commitment and the Bucks will be glad when the final whistle blows on their ultimate game of the campaign, next week, away to Crook Bar 56.
