Report

Hepworth travelled to bottom of the table Middleton and on paper one would think an away win was going to be easy but despite their results Middleton do play well at times and can cause problems for teams. This and the fact Hepworth could only field 10 players due to injury, holidays and work committments so they had to perform ! And perfom they did with players not in usual positions and having not played regular it was a makeshift side but they played as a team and played well. Hepworth were a goal up on 5minutes when Chelsea Jessop nipped between the keeper and a defender turned and fired home. She had several other good chances but found her shots blocked or going wide as it proved difficult on a hard bumpy pitch with long grass to control the ball. they did not make their early pressure count again until the 22 minute when Jade England sent a corner over and up popped Centre half Lindsey Tague with a great header into the top corner. Just 6 minutes later following a Middleton corner poor marking led to the home side pulling a goal back. Despite hepworth having all the possestion they could not find the net again before half time. ten minutes after the restart Chelsea Jessop took a curling corner kick and saw the ball curl in and the keeper could only parry the ball into the net to increase Hepworths lead. Just a minute later Jade England floated a corner over after Hepworth had forced Middleton back straight from the kick off. This was met by Jolene Forrest who fired Hepworth 4-1 up. On 61 minutes Jolene returned the favour when she fed a through ball into the path of Jade England who promptly scored to make it 5-1 to Hepworth. Middleton wer relying on the one quick striker but despite her pace on her own, whichever way she turned up popped  Abbie Iggleden to rob her of the ball or thwart her efforts. Abbie practically had her in her pocket the whole game helped out well by Naomi Mellor Lindsey Tague and Lauren Pashley. In an unusual midfield role Sophie canham was marshalled around by the Lively Lisa Parry and both were often involved in great passing moves. In between her sunbathing sessions Vikki Cooper in goal pulled off some great saves when required one inparticular brave effort when the defence were breached she threw herself in front of the Middleton striker and saved the shot point blank with her face !!!

Two quick goals again on 73 an 75 minutes put further distance between the sides. The first another corner from England met by Sophie Canham and with a glancing header she put the ball in the top corner.the second was a great solo run by Chelsea Jessop who beat everyone and slid her shot past the advancing keeper. By now the game was over but Hepworth still kept going forward and on 87 minutes Chelsea Jessop claimed her 4th goal and Hepworths 8th. A great performance by Chelsea and by Hepworth, but the players voted Sophie Canham as players player of the match for an outstanding job in an unusual position and a goal aswell. Next week sees the team round up their season with a home game against Altofts kick off 2pm at Spring Lane New Mill.
