History

Under 10's
05 Oct 2007

Putting this one together is really hard as these were lads which I had suddenly acquired. There will be lots of lads I haven't mentioned and I do apologise but gettin on a bit n the memories not what it used to be.
Gavin Edwards, Danny Podmore n Matthew Green played up front, cracking trio of strikers but more often than not fighting a losing battle as we often conceded more than we put in.
Johnny Baldwin ran his little heart out, bless him. He was always right up for it.
Then there was Dean I can't remember his last name, but he used to always bring a smile to mine and Paddy's faces, there he'd be pretending he was a motorbike or aeroplane running up to take the corners.
Kieron, Adam Hayhurst, Shaun Green and Scott McCormac playing in defensive positions,I was gutted when Adam had to stay down as we went up to Under 11's.
Hinchy and a few of his mates from Kimberworth would make their own way even at that young age across town to play for the team, more often than not either Paddy or I would end up taking them home at the end as to us they were only young pups.
The goalie was Ben Waddington, Ben scared the living daylights out of us, he was a cracking goalie even at Under 10's never afraid of anything and he commanded his area like Hitler commanded his troops. God help any kid running towards his goal cos Ben would come tearing out of his goal and steam roll them down. To my knowledge Ben as continued with football and his position as goalie and I still think he's agood goalie now.
Well as I have said before we didn't get very far in the league, but I'll tell you what they was a lovely bunch of lads, never heard one of them moan if theydidn't start the game and with 22 lads, you could guarentee there was a fair few on the sub bench. The kit we had was a tattered and torn Rotherham United replica kit from god knows what year, but those lads wore it with pride. I still see some of them knocking about now and I often think of others and most of them have turned out to be nice, respectful lads.

The original dream team a great bunch of lads that went out every week dreaming of that promotion. Remember we went to our matches in a team bus and we used to sing "Who to be a Miller", "He Hi, HE Hi, He Hi Ho, Up the football here we go!" We played football every week as a team and with great spirit and sporting behaviour.

We lost a few players going into this season but we gained more when Bramley folded and we acquired Craig, Danny & Ross. Ian Byron came on board as our coach and Paddy left to help coach the new Under 11's.

God! We went bagpacking virtually every other week to raise money to take us to Butlins. But we got there and we took them by storm, getting right through to the semi-finals and playing with numerous injuries. We had a right laugh though. Remember hunting the flag down and you lot playing football midnight the night before our big game against the team we were playing.
