Match Report 05th May 2012 v Heath Rovers

Our last league game of the campaign saw us visit Heath Rovers at Fairways. The game was scheduled for Paringdon but the pitch was unplayable (for us anyway!). A bit of a different look to the teamdue to players missing saw us start with Reece and Jim in the middle. It was afairly even first half by all accounts. We restricted them to mainly long range shots and created some reasonable chances of our own with Jamo making a good save to keep it level. With a few minutes of the half remaining we got a free kick on the edge of their area. Rob stepped up and curled the ball in to put us 1-0 up. Another good finish for our top scorer.

The second half we started well and played some good football. They had a bit more of the ball but we defended well as a team. Carl, Reece and Jim were winning a lot of the ball and Matt was able to bring it out from the back on several occasions. We then scored again when Rob got the better of a defender and slotted the ball in with his right foot to make it 2-0. This was his 24th goal of the season, the highest return in our history. Steve came on for Gavin. They were then getting a bit frustrated and although they had more of the ball we continued to defend well and we restricted them to mainly long range shots again. Jamo made another good save to preserve our lead and we also hit the post. The game finished 2-0 and it was good to round off the season with a win. It was a good effort by the whole team. In four years we haven’t lost a last game of the season. It was then time for the customary end of season champagne to be sprayed around.

Thanks to Terry for running the line and to all our supporters who have been with us all season. Overall I think we have had a good season. We had a couple of good cup runs and achieved a respectable finish in the league in our first season in the division. Thanks to all the players for their efforts throughout.

MOTM- Reece who had a very good game winning a lot of the ball both forwards and back.

Special mention to Matt who also had a good game.

Team

Jamo- Made some good saves to keep our lead and it was good to get a clean sheet.

Tapps- Had a good game at the back and won a lot of important headers & tackles

Dan- Another very good game, won everything that came near him.

Stoney- Another solid game made some vital tackles when we were under pressure

Matt- Brought the ball out well from the back and made some good interceptions

Reece- MOTM- Had a very good game throughout.

Jim- Another strong game in the middle always worked hard to support the team

Gavin- Did well out wide to link up with the rest of the team

Carl- Good on the ball and worked hard

Rob- Two more good finishes from our top scorer. He worked hard all game as always to win the ball back and hold it up  

Tom(Pav)- Did well to link up with Rob and hold the ball up
