Report

The Spitfires came out 2nd best by a single goal in a 7 goal derby game against the Hurricanes. In a typically hard fought match the Spitfires struggled to get the ball down and play, as they had in the 1st league game between the 2 sides and went a deserved goal down when Matty Owen scored over the top of Harvey’s head, in goal.

The equaliser came in similar style for the Spitfires when Cameron put the ball over the Hurricanes keeper and the goal that put the Hurricanes back in front was also a strike from distance that Harvey  could only parry into the goal.

A goal early after the restart saw the Spitfires go 3-1 down but seemed to bring a change  of tide in the match as the Spitfires got on top for the 1st time in the game.  Forced into going a little more direct then normal, a sustained spell of pressure resulted in Harry scoring to make it 3-2 and when Callum scored the tie was level at 3-3.  Despite being on top the Spitfires couldn’t nudge ahead and some sloppy marking at the back saw them go behind again.

A few more half chances fell both ways but the score remained 4-3 to the Hurricanes and if either side deserved to take the points it probably , just was the home side.

While the 7 goals and the way the game swung from team to team made things entertaining to watch in truth neither side played any football of note. It was a typical derby game and we saw today that maybe the lads are not yet quite good enough to dictate such a match by using the ball well.  It was however pleasing to see ,again, the lads prepared to dig in when the tackles where flying in and to show the spirit they did to get back into the game at 3-1 down.

Well done boys!!!
