Champions Bellhouse Wanderers faced a stern test in the shape of leaders Rivermead and sure enough a tight game followed. With scores deadlocked at 0-0 for 60 minutes of the game it took a controversial penalty to see Bellhouse take the lead, Paul Delaney netting from the spot. Rivermead pressed on, but it was Bellhouse who doubled their advantage as Paul Scagliosi scuffed the ball over the line inside the 6 yard box. Bellhouse compounded Rivermead’s frustrations in style, Craig Bristow firing in a superb free kick leaving the Rivermead keeper with no chance and giving Bellhouse all 3 points. Lakers United turned in a great performance to upset Heybridge Social, running out convincing 6-0 winners. Greg Williams has been in fine form of late and he grabbed another 2 goals, with Dave Edwards, John Dorney, Alex Headley and Tom Coles also scoring. Noaklands were held by a battling Diamond Red Stars side in an entertaining affair. Wes Bocking, James Whelpdale and Steve Poulter (2) scored for Noaklands with Dan Thomas (2), Lee Barry and Paul Farndell replying for Diamonds. Tulip Kings have been having a tough time of late but they didn’t look at all troubled as they brushed aside Barlows Park Rangers 5-0. Priory Sports successfully defended their status as title holders with a narrow win against league leaders Writtle. Heybridge Social took over at the top following a second win to confirm they will be in the running come the end of the season. Top of the goascoring spree this week were Norton who slotted nine past Duke Street in Division Three, but not far behind were Old Chelmsfordians and Fyfield Lion who both found the net seven times.

Heybridge Social had mixed results on sunday 2nd September. the Pope & Smith team won 3-2 vs Highfield Vic and the cdssl team lost 3-2 to Bellhouse in the Invitation cup.

Heybridge Social 3 - 2 Highfield Vic

Fresh from their success in last week's Charity Cup, Heybridge Social were hosts to the dangerous Highfield Victoria outfit. The Heybridge youngsters made a bright start, but the experienced visitors were more than able to hold the early onslaught at bay with some very clever defending. As the half progressed, Highfield began to get themselves more into the game. It seemed almost inevitable when Nigel Warren exploited space outside of the home penalty area, to fire off a cracker of a shot to give the visitors the lead. Heybridge did well to get back into their stride, and a well taken goal from Richard Bowyer drew the scores level going into the break. Following the break, the home side fairy raced back at their opposition, and were soon ahead thanks to a Sam Wakefield goal. Some further enterprising play saw them even further into the lead when Richard Bowyer once again got into the thick of the action, and he shot his second home to give Heybridge a two goal cushion. Highfield never let go of the hope that there was something in the game for them, and they continued to construct some very neat attacking moves. On 75 minutes their efforts were rewarded as Will Heavey got to a loose ball in the area, and pulled one back for the visitors. The home defence were in no mood to let the hard fought for lead slip, and some very stout defending kept the visitors comfortably at bay. With just a few minutes on the clock, Adam Brotherton was in an unfortunate collision with a Highfield player, and sadly ended his match being taken to hospital with a shoulder problem. We wish him well.

Invitation Cup Final(CDSSL)

Bellhouse 3 - 2 Heybridge Social(CDSSL)

Premier League Champions Bellhouse Wanderers and League Cup Winners Heybridge Social met in the first ever CDSSL Invitation Cup Final to open the 2007/2008 season. Bellhouse opened the stronger side and despite an early close range miss from James Silk they soon opened the scoring via a Paul Delaney penalty. Bellhouse refused to sit on their lead and continued to pile on the pressure, Paul West adding the second with a neat finish soon afterwards. Delaney netted his second penalty of the game to make it 3-0 with 30 minutes gone and Heybridge looked to be in for a tough afternoon. Social refused to lie down though and Dan Foakes scored a wonderful free kick to reduce the deficit before the break. The second half saw Bellhouse looking to protect their lead and Heybridge struggle to break down the resolute Bellhouse back line. Gary Montgomery eventually found the way through, beating the offside trap and curling the ball round the Bellhouse keeper and into the net. Both sides had late chances, Foakes missing a good chance with 10 minutes to go when Richard Bowyer was perhaps better placed and Paul Delaney missing a guilt edged chance for his hattrick when he failed to loft the ball over the Welcome keeper. The match ended 3-2 Bellhouse and they became the first team to lift the trophy.
