Report

For the final match of the season, the second eleven travelled to Weldon who still harboured ambitions of a league title which were to founder on their daisy and dandelion shrewn home ground.
Heyford had a modest increase in strength from the imput of regular 1st team players James STIRLING and Nathon LACEY whilst Lacoh CHIMPONDA made a surprise return in a Heyford shirt, his last? who knows.
From the outset, this seasons defensive frailty's were evident and the rearguard were breached as early as the 7th minute when a long Weldon ball hit into the penalty area was not dealt with.Headed back across the goalmouth, the ball appeared to be bundled into the net whilst helpless defenders looked on.
Further into the Weldon half a more even contest was developing and an equaliser only one minute later was ruled offside.Chances were coming at both ends with the Heyford defence being fortunate on 11 minutes when another breech resulted in a Weldon drive struck wide.
The influential Lacoh CHIMPONDA,after a quiet start for him, began to influence the midfield area and with his efforts, the team began to gain a slight upper hand which was not lost for almost the rest of the match.Against this background, the team went two down on 21 minutes. The ball, carlessly lost in midfield fell to a Weldon player whose 35 yard shot hit the top left corner of the Heyford goal, giving James STIRLING no chance, although he was perhaps justified in his remonstations of the lost possession.
As we have seen before this season,Heyford heads do not drop and the first reply came just 4 minutes later.Lacoh CHIMPONDA elected to drive an awarded free kick from distance. The shot was blocked but fell to Bradley SWEATT whose low drive was deflected past a flat footed Weldon Keeper.Spurred on by this success,Heyford were level before half time.A poor Weldon back pass ,intercepted by Luke HICKMAN who struck an accurate low drive into the corner of the Weldon net.
On 55 minutes, luke almost scored a repeat, chasing down a weak back pass. His shot unfortunately deflected for a corner.
Heyford were chasing a win now and further chances fell to the front line which were not taken. The Weldon attack continued their own efforts but the Heyford defence, inspired by Nathon LACEY,who hardly put a foot wrong after the shakey start, and James STIRLINGs reassuring presence, had just got better and better as the match progressed.
As this game drew to a close,Heyford, adjusted their ambition to a well deserved draw and this just maybe handed some endgame upper hand to Welford and real drama at the close. A confused,to me anyway, tussle between James STIRLING and a welford forward resulted in a free kick to the home team just ouside the Heyford box.Heyford hearts on the touch line were in their mouths. The kick, driven against a determined defensive wall brought relief. On 93 minutes Lacoh CHIMPONDA had the chance to take all three points.Clean through on his own with only the Weldon keeper to beat,he had perhaps too much time to consider his options and shot tamely at him.
A final Weldon drive over the Heyford bar, finished the match and the season.Heyford players left the field,a little hot and tired but with heads held high after a good performance. The Weldon team, just a bit annoyed but they had met their match today.

Conclusion. This Weldon reserve team had hopes of a league title.Heyfords second Eleven with this spirit and maybe a little more strength in certain areas would have been up there with them this season. There are great plans for next season. The future is bright, the future is Blue.

No individual player scores today,I could not see the need at this last match. The player of the match was Nathon LACEY,he inspired the Heyford back line from a shaky first quarter to a solid unit at the finish.
