Sun 23 Nov 2008  League
Holtspur Hurricanes 1
Marlow Royals 7
Kick Off : 10:30 Meeting Time : 10:00

A day which suited the North Pole rather then Sunday football brought in rain, snow and bitterly cold weather, is what greeted us upon arrival.

A number of players had pulled out due to illness, and this welcomed back Ben B in goal and Kishan G for his first game of the season.

The first ten minutes were all Holtspur as the midfield quartet of Eddie M, Harvey K, Tommy L and Mason K fed the ever-willing runs of Nick R and Billy R. One such ball allowed Billy R to latch onto and unleash a great strike which cleared the keepers upward hand and nestled in the back of the net.

Mason K was brought off (again due to illness) and Kishan G started on the right side. The away team started to press, and through a number of corners equalised. Again the home side were on the back foot but Ben B was back to last seasons form, producing some fine saves to keep the scores level. Again another corner was our downfall, as we were second to the floated ball and the away striker headed in from close range.

At halftime the coldness was starting to tell, with a number of players going AWOL, and looking disinterested. Still we battled hard but again two corners and a great cross allowed the away side three more goals. It almost seemed like they had more players on the pitch as attack after attack was bravely defended by Richard I, Ciaran W, Luke B and Stuart I. Another away goal, prompted a positional change. Billy R and Nick R were brought back into midfield, which stemed the onslaught from a very organised Marlow team. Their continual effort produced a number of good through balls for Kishan G and Harvey K to chase. Eddie M was providing some fine crosses from corners and free kicks, but today we were out-fought and generally out-played.

Proud of the way we continued to battle, but again corners were our downfall again, and this is some we will address in training. Well done to all those who battled the elements, especially to Luke B who gained the Man of the Match for his upbeat motivation to the team and commitment throughout the game.
