Holywell Town Reserves - Season 2010/11

The season started with a new manager as Martyn Evans took over the helm, and he was looking for a good result against Llanrwst United Reserves in the Clwyd Reserve Division.  In an entertaining game, Town ran out 6-5 winners with Kallum Pierce scoring a hat trick, Gareth Davies getting a brace and Ben Lewis getting the winner.  This was the perfect start and set the tone for the rest of the season.

Town were then in cup action and made the trek over to play Llandudno 147 Club and came home 3-1 winners. Next up at Halkyn Road was Shotton Steel Reserves and Town own by 5 goals to 3. David Jones, Elliot Davies, Sam Parry, Tony Hogan and Wayne Edwards scoring a goal each.  Flint Town were next to visit Halkyn Road and the local derby was a one sided affair with Town beating their near neighbours by 9 goals to 1.  Kallum Pierce led the way with four goals, Alyn Roberts bagged a hat trick with Scott Reid and Ben Lewis rounding up the scoring.  A trip to Abergele Rovers rounded off the month of September and Town registered another league victory by beating them 4-2 with Kallum Pierce once again amongst the goalscorers.

Our first match in October saw Rhuddlan Town beaten at Halkyn Road by 3 goals to 1, Darren Wilde, Dai Jones and Kallum Pierce getting the goals.  Town then suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 at Shotton Steel.  Another cup victory followed against Abergele Dragon 1st’s before another emphatic victory in the league as Aston Park were beaten on their own patch by 6 goals to 1.  Next up, Prestatyn Town came to Halkyn Road and were beaten by 8 goals to 1, with Josh Ruane bagging a hat trick amongst the scorers.

The combination of bad weather and no fixtures saw Town only play a couple of games in December and January and Llanrug United were beaten in the cup by 3 goals to 1 then Caerwys were beaten at Caerwys by 5 goals to nil, Ben Lewis with a brace, Jack Maclean, Alyn Roberts and Sean Wilkes amongst the scorers.

February saw another two cup victories, this time Aston Park and Llandyrnog United Reserves were eliminated from the cup whilst in the league, Town suffered a rare defeat at Llanrwst United as they won by the odd goal in 7.

Two cup matches in March saw town knocked out of both the NWCFA Junior Cup and also the league Cup as Llanrwst United beat us in the League Cup and Point of Ayr beat us in the NWCFA cup.  The club could then concentrate on winning the league and getting into the final of the Clwyd League Presidents Cup.

Town put the disappointment of losing both cup matches by beating Prestatyn Rovers by 5 goals to 1 in the first league match in April.  2 more goals for Kallum Pierce, Alyn Roberts, Dwayne Durham and Sean Wilkes completed the scoring.  Aston Park Rangers were then defeated by 4 goals to nil, and Caerwys Reserves were beaten at Halkyn Road to keep it tight at the top with Flint, Shotton and ourselves fighting it out to finish champions.  Rhuddlan Town Reserves were then beaten in the presidents Cup to set up a semi final against Prestatyn town Reserves.  Rhuddlan Town were beaten by 4 goals to 3 at their ground, David Holloway getting a last minute winner for the Town which meant that a victory in the last game of the season against Abergele Dragons would crown us League Champions.

In a tense final league game of the season, Holywell Town ended up victorious by 4 goals to 3 to be crowned champions.  Goals by Darren Wilde, Liam Robinson, Kallum Pierce and Sean Wilkes gave us the victory and Holywell were crowned inaugural champions of the Clwyd Reserve Division.  It was an excellent campaign and only two league defeats showed that the reserves were worthy champions.

Unfortunately, the Reserves ended their season with a defeat at the hands of Prestatyn Town Reserves, which saw us knocked out of the Presidents cup at the semi final stage.

The Reserves had a remarkable season and will next year enter the Clwyd Reserve Premier League and will be hoping to build on the success of this season for a great campaign next season.
