The girls travelled to Reffley for their last game of the season and both teams played their part in an entertaining encounter. On a very difficult and sloping pitch the hosts started the brighter and put some pressure on Hungates defence which lead to Reffley scoring a first deserved goal. However Hungate pushed Cooper forward and Swinden in midfield and they started to impose themselves on the game forcing a number of corners. From one of these corners an excellent kick from Towler found Stukins whose header hit the crossbar. Shortly after pressure from Punter led to a Reffley defender passing back to the keeper who was unlucky to fumble the ball in to the net. Near the end of the half Clayton had a good chance to score but her shot hit the bar. H.T 1-1.
Playing down the slope Hungate uped their game in the second half and good forward passes from Beckett and Towler put Reffley on the back foot. Using their pace both Punter and Stukins were breaking through the defence with ease to support Cooper and it looked like only time before they would score. But it was Reffley who on a rare breakaway scored their second goal to take the lead. Hungate came right back and both Swinden and Cooper missed gilt edged chances before the latter hit a shot which deceived the keeper to make it 2-2. Haynes was in control at the back and this allowed the girls to commit numbers forward and following good work from Clayton it was Cooper who found space to score her second and take the lead for the first time. Their tails were up now and a fourth quicky followed with a superb solo effort from Punter. Kierman replaced Cooper up front and further chances came and went before Stukins made the game safe with a fifth goal. Keeper Busby had a fairly quiet half but in pressing forward for more goals was left vulnerable to a break away from which Reffley scored their third goal which was reward for their part in a fine end of season game.
Pleasingly this was another fine performance by the girls and in scoring five goals was a nice way to finish the season and in doing so secure a fourth place position in the league.
Well done girls!
