ICTHUS UNITED A SHORT HISTORY

Icthus was founded in the 1998-1999 season. The club came into being after The Eastbourne Church League folded and was formed from two former church sides 'KINGS CHURCH EASTBORNE FC
and 'FRENCHGATE CHURCH FC' who joined forces to form ICTHUS UNITED
At that time the team was made up of virtually all players from the two churches.
Nowadays players come from various churches around the town and players with no church background at all.

The question often asked is what is ICTHUS? You often see when driving around a fish symbol on the back of a car that is an Icthus.The fish was the secret symbol used by early christians when Roman persecution was rife and Icthus was Greek for fish.The symbol is now used as an international sign for Christanity,and as two church teams had united the name ICTHUS UNITED was derived.The team still has strong links with local churches and is sponsored by 'THE KINGS CENTRE' the home of 'KINGS CHURCH' on the B/Q roundabout Hamden park Eastbourne.
