|Under 16 Eagles||2|
In the last league game of 2011, Eagles faced the second half of the double header with local rivals Burton Park Wanderers. After last week’s 1-0 win over them, Roberts chose De Rosa as the man to miss out with Carpenter returning, although only on the bench.
Burton came quick out of the blocks, and Eagles continued their first league goal for over 200 minutes when a far post header looped into the top corner. But it didn’t take long for Eagles to restore parity; a fantastic ball from Jake Bates was met by ISA ALI who smashed home the equaliser from the edge of the box. Eagles then got on top and Ali went close again from a Carr cross. Things remained neutral chance wise, until Robinson’s shot was spilled only for the incoming Bates to be called offside. Half time 1-1.
Eagles made two changes at half-time with Carpenter on an all-time leading goalscorer Kineton also entering the field of play. The first chance fell to Robinson, whose header was cleared off the line well. But Eagles didn’t have to wait long, the inspired substitution of Kineton payed off; with Thorley whipping in a fine cross to be turned home by BRAD KINETON. Eagles continued to work hard, and Ali and Kineton both went close again, but another valiant defensive display earned another close win. Final Score 2-1 Eagles.
Eagles move up to third with the win, no more games in 2011 for Eagles as Thrapston cancelled next week’s return fixture. MOM Isa Ali who was fantastic up front again.
