Report

A fantastic result for Eagles, which sees them extend their lead to four points at the top of the Division 2 table.

Gaffer Roberts made no changes to the starting XI from last weeks 1-1 draw with Ospreys. With De Rosa still unavailable due to personal reasons, Trevaskis and Perryman were ill and Tavener remained out with a groin injury. Sahota returned to the squad, albeit on the bench.

In this top of the table clash, Eagles started brightly with good football early on. The opener came after 12 minutes, Kineton bursting through the Rockingham defence only to be brought down by the home keeper to earn a third penalty of the 2010/11 campaign. Up stepped WILL PATRICK to fire home the spot kick and hand Eagles a 1-0 lead. But the lead did not last long at all, the league's top scorer Dylan Griffiths burst in behind and fired low at Roberts but he saved it with his leg, but the save went straight back to the striker and he subsquently fired home to equalise. But it didn't take long for Eagles to go ahead again, a fantastic run and cross from Kineton, was met by KEITH BIRKITT who slotted home the second and give Eagles a 2-1 lead at half time.

No changes at half time, and Eagles once again came out of the blocks first and the lead was further extended just 2 minutes into the second period, some good football led to JAMES BUCKLE turning the defender and slotting home only his third goal in Eagles history. Eagles continued to dominate, and were looking for a fourth, and quickly found this with some good play from Kineton once again and JAMES SUTTON chipped home his second goal in as many games to effectively collect all three points. With 30 minutes left for the Eagles to undergo the Rockingham siege, Morgan came on to freshen up the midfield. The back four remained defiant and there was only really once good chance for Rocky with McCahill heading wide from close range. Just as the game seemed to be out of reach for the home side, a cross was converted in by Eagles' left back Keith Birkitt leaving keeper Mozza Roberts helpless. But Eagles held on for a famous victory and cementing their place at the top.

MOM went to James Sutton who played excellently in his second appearance, scoring the fourth goal. Next week a tough test against Grange and Eagles will need to keep up this great form to sustain their title challenge.
