Despite trying as hard as they could Eagles find themselves out of the Cup following a heavy defeat, inflicted by a Generals team that had lost on their previous visit to Wickys. Generals started well and put us under a lot of pressure that Eagles coped with. However after about 10 mins a long range shot found the net. Eagles pushed on and were unlucky to be caught offside when bearing down on goal. From the resulting free kick Generals scored their second after a mix up in the defense. The half finished 2-0 to Generals.
The second half started with a change of formation to try to make use of the wind. We went to a 3-4-3 formation to try to put more pressure on the Generals defence, but it seemed to confuse the Eagles and they became ragged and ill-disciplined. Generals took control and scored a further 5 goals to make the final score 7-0 to Generals.
Rory won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding tackling and defensive play, and there were good performance from the front two and the back 5, but collectively we are not closing down people or showing enough desire to do the right things for enough of the match to get the win.
We will keep working and trying to instill the belief in the squad that they are a good team who just needs a win to hopefully kick-start a revival.
