Behaviour policy
14 Aug 2010

Appropriate behaviour from the lads is required at training sessions and matches.

Training sessions are designed to teach skills and for football practice. They are not there for the lads to mess around, lark about or be cheeky. This shows disrespect to the Coach and Manager and impacts the quality of the training session. It also leaves us questioning whether the boy has the right attitude.
However we are not aiming at producing robots as players we will ensure the sessions are as varied as possible and will involve fun exercises when relevant.

This policy is now in place..
For a first offence, a quiet word should be enough.
For a second offence, we will stand the boy out away from the group next to an adult until the Coach and Manager feels that the lad is able to join in properly again. The parent/guardian will be informed.
For three consecutive 'stand outs' (even if across multiple training sessions) a player will miss the next match and their parent/guardian will meet with the Coach and Manager to discuss.
For any more serious poor behaviour, such as foul language, verbal abuse, bullying or consistent poor attitude the boy will be suspended from the squad for a period decided by the Coach and Manager (a letter will be sent to the parent/guardian, copied to the club Chairman)
The Coach and Manager finally have the right to ask a boy to leave the team altogether if poor behaviour or bad attitude is so bad that it's impacting the team. This will involve a meeting with Coach, Manager, Parent/Guardian and Club Chairman.
Parents please communicate and justify this to your lad by explaining that if your lad is not working as hard as the others in training, players will have to 'carry' them in matches and that's not fair. Also, players who have been paying attention can then practice what they've learned in a match. But the ones who weren't listening will quickly fall behind skill wise and jeopardise their chance of being chosen for the team.

The carrot is more effective than the stick...
Our group of boys rarely give us cause for any concern and therefore on the plus side we will ensure that good attitude and behaviour will be recognized and rewarded by the Coach and Manager.
