Leafield started the game well despite deciding to attack into the wind with the hope of using it to their advantage in the second half of the game. The game started with Leafield showing intent to score early in the game when Agata took the ball straight from the kick off and ran at the Solihull defence however her shot was well saved by the GK. Some good pressure for Solihull followed before Isobel made a run down the left and crossed towards Shona however her deft flick was comfortable for the GK.
Shona got herself into two good positions to cross into the box and did so with the first being cut out by the GK and second going just behind the goal.
Abby collected the ball on the edge of the area and fired a shot at goal only to see it flash just wide of the post. The first goal of the game went to Solihull when Emily stretched well for a corner but couldn’t manage to hold on to the ball, Solihull were fist to the free ball and poked it over the line.
Some nice interplay between Georgia, Inez and Isobel led to Isobel having a shot that went wide, further chances fell to Abby and Inez but neither could trouble the goalkeeper Leafield equalised just after half time when Isobel played the ball to Inez on the edge of the area whose powerful shot deflected off a defender before finding the corner of the net. Leafield scored the second soon after to take them into the lead, this was when Inez played the ball to Georgia’s feet in the box she controlled well and hit a shot on the turn that took a deflection on its way into the net.
Georgia set the ball to Agata who hit a brilliant shot towards the top far corner but unfortunately it failed to dip quite enough. Leafield sealed the win when Abby shot and the ball fell to Shona for her to fire into the roof of the net.
A good performance from Leafield in what was a difficult game played in good spirit by both teams. The conditions made Leafield’s preferred style of play difficult but both teams battled well to produce a decent game for the spectator.
