Report

A much-awaited game had finally arrived, after several postponements due to rain and snow, greeted by the start of what seems to be Summer. Another great day for Football, which seems to epitomise the season we’ve had.  The Lions were in good spirits considering it would be their last match together for the season, and the result they needed to achieve their goal. Of course, not all could go well, with the Lions finding their Kit not only un-ironed, but still damp from the wash! Nevertheless, the Lions took to the training pitch (in their eco friendly Kit), for a light-hearted warm-up to lift their spirits.

After a quick, yet stern chat with the Ref, the match was underway. The opposition, down two players, played strongly and took advantage of the Lions’ nerves. The Lions were able to spread the ball well and create some chances, however they seemed to spend too much time on the ball to break the defence down, which seemed to be the whole of the oppositions side. Before the first half was over, Steph Jones was able to knock one in for the Lions from close range to put them in front, and hopefully, in a better frame of mind.

As always, a constructive half time discussion saw better play in the second half, with defenders taking the ball up and joining in the attack, giving the opposition a hard time. The Lions controlled possession and were able to keep the opposition in their own half for the most part, with only a few breaks of play from Kidderminster. In this time, the Lions were able to convert five more times from Steph Jones (2), Sam Morris (2) and the final goal from Sis Gowlett (1). At the final whistle, the Lions took the win, 6-0, and in doing so, topped the League.

Again, a great performance from all the players, all of whom never fail to put in their all, and fight for each other until the end. Player of the match this week goes to Sis Gowlett who showed great determination in the centre of the pitch and contributed greatly to play.

On behalf of all the Lions, I’d like to thank those who came to support us throughout the season or followed our success online. A big thanks to all those down at the club who took care of us and kept our stomachs happy after our home matches, wouldn’t have been the same without you. Another thanks to our Manager/Coach Joe Graham and Assistant Coach Steve Duffy who dedicated a lot of time to training and matches between their own Football, and who had the very lucky job of putting up with all us girls.

This season has been yet another success story for the Lions, being promoted yet again. However, success was seen off the pitch too, with an amazing group of both existing and new players to the club this season, showing great maturity and respect for each other, proving to be a remarkable team and family.

A lot of work to be done over the off-season in preparation for the Lions next challenge. We hope to see you all upon its arrival with more excitement and enthusiasm than ever.

Until then,

COYL.
