Leighton Linslade Ladies ended their Eastern Region Women-s Campaign on the wrong end of a 10 drubbing to the hands of title chasing Brentwood Town. Leighton had massive team selection problems prior to the game with Captain Nikki Tarrant and normal star centre backs Jo Wedgbury and Sarah Fuller unavailable as well as over 10 other players. This meant Tracey Sibley, player manager for the day was forced to name 4 rookies amoungst the starters and play 3 players carrying performance hampering injuries. Despite the scoreline Leighton battled well to try and keep the scoreline down with Rosie Inzani and Kathryn Solley at the back coming to Leightons rescue on several occasions with some last grasp blocks and the woodwork also on Leightons side. Leighton did occasionally carry a goal threat going forward and player of the match Erica Bjaele missed Leighton-s best chance to salvage a goal. As the game went on Leighton changed their goalkeeper twice as 3 further injuries made it increasingly difficult for the home side but the players continued valiently through the pain barrier. Brentwood played some impressive football on a sunny afternoon and some of their goals were exceptionally well taken. They will now be looking to press on from this victorty to challenge for the league title with Arlesey Town whilst Leighton have now completed their league program and after a disappointing season, will be relegated to play Beds and Herts League football next season following a 2 year stint in the Eastern Regional Womens Football League.
