Luso Chard FC
Luso Chard Football Club was born in late 2004, when a group of young Portuguese workers residing in Chard chose football as a means of improving their physical & psycological well being.
The players were convinced that lack of opportunity would ever allow them to play together for more than pleasure, but through establishing friendly matches within the local area proved even themselves wrong and it was not long before a Development Team was created and constituted as a Football Club. Through support from the The Dolphin Inn, The Somerset Portuguese Association, The Bellplot House Hotel, some Portuguese individuals and the player's own potential and skills on the pitch the club proved that being organized and working together they could acheive great things.
Both early achievements and some persuasions by members of Portuguese community around Somerset challenged the group to try and join their local junior league, The Perry Street & District League. At the League's AGM in June 2006 the Club were unanimously accepted to enter Division 4 for the 2006/2007 season.
The groups early dream had become reality and the players continued to develop as a team and proved a great success in the division. Reaching Two cup semi finals and gaining promotion by finishing runners up in the league programme.
The 2007/08 season holds great promise for the team who sought to use football as a means of intergrating into the community. Having secured an English Manager and several English players the club can hopefully continue to breakdown the cultural differences in the local area.
As with any small club, finances are always sought, and are grateful to any organisations or companies seeking to invest in what is a uniquely proactive project, which hopefully can result in a mutual gain.
Finally, the club and all it's members thank you for sparing your time to visit our site.
