History of Lytchett Red Triangle

WELCOME TO LYTCHETT RED TRIANGLE YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB

We have been based in the village of Lytchett Matravers for many years. The Red Triangle football club was formed in 1919 by the schoolmaster, Mr F Gibbs. The red triangle logo was part of the boys brigade / youth hostel emblem an upside down triangle, this developed over the years. At first the club had no permanent pitch and home games were played in various fields; sometimes the cowpats were cleared away but often they were considered more of a hindrance and hazard to the opposing team than to the home team, so they were left to cause what damage and inconvenience they could! The proudest moment of the Red Triangle team was winning the East Dorset Minors Cup and League Championship Cup in the same year 1936-1937. The need for a permanent pitch for the Red Triangle team became pressing. Although the Youth Football Club has been running since 1970’s so we have been told – it did fold for a couple of years during the 1990's but soon reformed with new officers and committee.

F.A. CHARTER STANDARD CLUB
LRTYFC received its FA Charter Standard Award in 2003. The club gained the award because we demonstrated high standards in management, child protection, qualified coaching, codes of conduct, club policies and appropriate insurance. In 2007 we were awarded “Charter Standard Club of the Year – County Winners 2006/07” and were promoted to DEVELOPMENT Club in 2008.
In 2008 we were won Charter Standard DEVELOPMENT Club of the Year 2007/08 and our Chairman Steve Reid won an F.A. National Football Workforce Award, one of 10 people in the UK to receive such an accolade.
In 2009 Lynne Ballard was recognised for her voluntary work by the local Parish Council and awarded Purbeck Volunteer of the Year.

General Information
The Club is affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association. Our teams are divided into different sections but all play in Sunday leagues, one week at home, the following away.

If we have a current U7 team they play in Friendly Leagues.

U8, U9 & U10 mixed teams play in Dorset Mini Soccer (7-a-side)

U11 girls play in Dorset Girls Mini Soccer (7-a-side)

U11 / U12 / U13 / U14 & U16 teams play in the Dorset Youth Football League (11-a-side).

U18 teams play in newly formed "The Dorset Football Leagues".

We run a Soccer School on Saturday mornings catering for boys and girls aged 4 and 5 years.

We are fortunate enough to have 2 teams in the under 9's, 10's and U13's age groups. (Sometimes if there is not a vacancy in a team it can be disappointing for the children. There is only one thing left to do, find some more players and set up a 2nd team!? It's not a quick process but it can be done, Glen, Nigel, Graham and Georgina are proof of this. The club will offer it's full support to a parent who wishes to take the commitment on.)

Our aim is to provide a safe, secure and happy environment for children to enjoy the game of football.

Regards
Steve, Peter, Nikki and Lynne.
