In May 2005 we achieved promotion from the 3rd Division to the 2nd Division Ormskirk Leage by finishing 2nd in the league.
We were again Promoted to the 1st Division of the Ormskirk League after a shake up of the clubs in May 2008
Here is the tale of that roly poly!
The Sunday started out like every other one, and Mackies FC were continuing a rich run of form in their very first season. The game was all but over as they lead 4-2 against some team of chumps who wore a drab Aston Villa style kit. The game had slowed down and the clouds were gathering. Nobody really wanted to be there and the mood was pretty grey despite the score.
Nothing had happened for a good 10 minutes when suddenly Villa were on the attack from a poorly taken Mackies corner. Saphier was at the back as the ball landed neatly just outside the Mackies area. A keen Villa striker was on the rampage as he sprinted for the loose ball. Saphier wasn't one to shy away from a good challenge and so the race was on, Saphier from the side and Villa from the front.
Saphier was firm favourite to win the challenge, but instead of simply running on and passing it out, he was intent on causing some damage with a slide tackle. The only thing about to be damaged was someone's pride! As Saphier slid, and big Stuey Barlow called out to 'Chet', whoever he was, to take his time, it was apparent things were about to go sour. Saphier's knee got caught in a huge mound of wet thick mud. Lucky to escape injury the speed he was travelling caused his body to roll forward very fast, in the process shielding the ball from anything without touching it all the while and landing on his A**E the other side of it. The pitch erupted. The striker didn't even bother to carry on his run for laughing and suddenly it felt like the sun had begun to shine again.
It was Saphier's intention all along to mess up the slide tackle for entertainment purposes and do a roly poly over the ball. Sometimes Sunday league football needs a bit of sunshine in its life. Otherwise its just a game
It was October 2002 and we were playing Hen & Chickens (you thought Mackies was a bad name!) and beat them 4-3 away from home.
We played Stuart Old Boys and we was involved in an entertaining 4 all draw.
We was 3-0 down but came back with a late John Grimes equaliser.
