UPFC continued their league campaign at home this week against Ringwood United. The home team entered the fixture confident after a convincing win earlier in the season against the visitors. Greig came in for Shaun because of injury and with Ryan absent new signing Shaun came in for his debut up front alongside Chiv with Brett on the left wing.
The weather was absolutely dire with cold, windy wet conditions making for difficult playing conditions. The referee was undoubtedly the best looking, most talented and fair of the season and he got the game underway after a barrage of homophobic insults from the home team!!
UPFC bossed the first half but the same old story continued with chances coming along and not being taken. New signing Shaun settled in with some good early touches linking up well with Chiv. The away team were limited to counter attacks that were easily neutralised by MOM Greig and Captain Fantastic. The best chance of the half fell to Chiv who controlled his shot well beating the keeper but coming back off the post. Half time arrived with UPFC well on top and disappointed not to be ahead. We all know what happens next!
UPFC did not start the second half well with some of the players complaining of the cold (Brett=girl). The lack of focus was exposed by the away team with Jacko robbed of the ball in midfield Ringwood broke quickly with Jonesy saving the shot from the winger but parrying it straight into the striker who reacted quickest to nod in and give Ringwood and undeserved lead. UPFC were struggling to replicate the dominance of the first half with few clear cut opportunities. A solid period of pressure in the last ten saw UPFC frantically searching for the equaliser. Chiv headed over from six yards for the best chance but the game ended in real frustration with Ringwood holding on for the win.
How we didnt win this game I will never understand. Gotta start converting these chances we are getting and everyone needs to up their work rate to sort this C**P start to the season out.
Man of the Match: Greig Taylor
Muppet of the Week: Brett McEwan - any bloke who asks to be taken off for being too cold should be playing netball not football!
