History

How it all began
02 Sep 2008

2 years ago Andy was asked to take over an under 7s team that consisted of 4 players. One of which was his son. Just so his son could play football he took the job on. 2 years later that age group had developed into 5 coaches {all of which were parents themselves}and 36 players. They had played in 7 cup finals and won 5 of them. They had one full team in the first division and a developing team in the second and all was headed by Andy.
Unfortunately, though, not all the work that volunteers do in junior football is recognised and one of the committee members insisted that they change venue and training day.
When the age group refused the coaching staff were told to step in line or clear off and take your team with them.

The parents, players and coaching staff wanted to keep the team together and decided to start their own team. Within hours plans were afoot to create Manchester Tigers. The parents paid for the kits, raised huge amounts of money by bag packing at Asda and Ray Smith persuaded the council to part with some much needed money too.
The school where the team had always trained allowed the team to train for free and to use the grounds as their home pitch.

Through the determination of the parents, the desire of the players to stay with their friends and the sheer bloody mindedness of the coaches Manchester Tigers was born.

Other Junior football clubs offered advise on how to get started and some sent footballs, bibs and cones to help.

it is an example of how parents will do what they think is the best for their children and no amount of bullying will change that.
The team has a great spirit and over the past few years has developed into a great football team. They work tremendously hard, will turn up in all weathers to train and will travel anywhere to play football.

This is our first season as Manchester Tigers and our first season with us at the helm. We have a very determined bunch of fans {parents}, a very hard working group of coaches and a great team of players. If anyone can make this work it's us.
