A Brief History

Workers from the M&G Group in Chelmsford formed M&G football club in 1982. The club played its early years in the Chelmsford Invitation League but in the early nighties joined the Pope & Smith Chelmsford Sunday League and stayed there for a number of years. At the end of the 2004/2005 the team decided to take a years break from league football as many people had left the M&G Group - This included the club officials and a large majority of the team.

The team finished 10th in Pope & Smith League Division Three at the end of the 04/05 season.

The club won a number of trophies during their time in the Chelmsford Inviation and Pope & Smith Sunday League including the Division 5 championship in the 2000/2001 and Division 6 Championship in 1989-1990 season.


The club won the Sportsmanship Cup on two occasions and finished runners up on two other occasions, the club consider sportsmanship as a key aspect of the club and always strive to achieve excellent sportsmanship.

After a years break the team has been re-established and rejoined the Chelmsford Invitation League. A squad of approximately 25 players who are keen and looking to play Sunday football on a regular basis.
