From humble beginnings...
The club founders were three boys, Lee Croucher, Alec Stoter and Darren Ward, who had the idea to set up Marden Minors Football Club. Lee Croucher approached Robin and Barbara Judd requesting permission to use Southons field for which the Judd's kindly agreed, Marden Minors had their first home ground.
Southons originally was used for village cricket in the 1920's. In 1984-85 season, the only Marden Minors team joined the Invicta league at under 10's level,
Lee Croucher was too old to play, and therefore went on to become a qualified referee. To raise funds in the first season the club held a bazaar in the vestry hall. Mums made various home made goods and at home matches cakes and teas where sold. Players did a sponsored assault course at Maidstone Barracks in order to obtain their first kit. In the First season they raised four Hundred pounds. At this time the club committee was mostly made up from mums, as there seemed to be a distinct lack of interest by others. In 1985 a port-a-cabin went up at Southons pitch and our first set of gang mowers were purchased. Robin Judd moved Marden Colt's Cricket club back to Southons in 1985, which was the first time cricket had been played there for 60 years. In their first ever game Marden Minors played against Maundene Swifts from Chatham, a friendly game which ended up in a 4-4 draw.
In their first ever season 1984-85 the league stats were played 20, won 8, lost 10, 2 drawn, goals for 31, Goals against 86. In the second season they entered the Maidstone Primary league as under 12's and played in various 5-a-side tournaments throughout Kent & Susse.x
The first ever presentation night was held in the memorial hall in 1985. The sister's of the player's formed Marden Majorettes for the evening, all boys received a trophy and a fish & chip supper. Robin Judd presented the trophies.
Originally Marden Minors played in white shirts, black shorts, which then became white and black stripes shirts and black shorts. Our away kit was red shirts with white trim and black shorts. In 1993-94 season we changed our club colours to red and white stripped shirts, black shorts and black socks.
The original club badge was a large M with a small M inside, with FC inside the small M.
To mark the turn of the century the club held a competition for all players to design a new club badge this was won by David Edmonds with a simple quartered design.
The early club history was provided by the first ever Marden Minor Chairman Trevor Ward
