Man of the Match Robbo.

The team were raring to go after the summer festivities of the tournaments and it showed from the off and within the first two minutes went two nil up with some quick fire passing and great finishing as Elliot bagged his first of the season as did Ollie C.

The David Hunt defence although willing were not able to cope with the fast attacks from all over the pitch, defence quickly became attack as the back four of Will ( birthday boy), Connor, Ollie S and Joe looked for opportunities to go forward with Mazza marshalling them well from the goal so not to leave him exposed.

The defence linked well the tireless midfield of Nathan, Ollie C and Fergus and Robbo with Robbo and Fergus making some really strong runs down the right and left wings and it was not long before another promising run produced a fantastic curling left foot from Cameron, his first in the league for his new club.

Some great passing from the team kept the ball in the David Hunts half with only the odd attack from them on the back as they seemed unable to deal with the strength, the passing and the fitness of the Marlborough boys. Robbo linked well with Elliot who just missed getting his second, then a pearler of a cross from Fergus again mat by Elliot who just missed with the header.

The attacking was relentless with a series of 5 corners at one point and the last one despite two great saves from the keeper resulted in a goal for Robbo.

Mazza did have to smother an effort from the opposition in one of their rare attacks and as usual gave the defenders what for only after another pinpoint kick to a Marlborough winger to carry the ball forward once more.

Cam continued to sweep past his defenders and after a great shot saved well Fergus came in and chipped the keeper for his season opener.

Ollie C gets his hat trick after some typical strong running at the defence. Coach changes the team a little just before halt time with Ollie C coming off for Charlie and Fergus off for Harry.

Second half Oscar comes on too for Joe E and even with a 6 – 0 lead and some changes to the shape of the team the pressure continues with all players doing their jobs. Harry, Ollie S and in particular Connor make some awesome tackles keeping the D Hunt team at bay with Will being his usual solid as a rock showing in defence.

Naz played some excellent intelligent football throughout the match and ran tirelessly at the opposition and put through the forwards several times with his accurate passing.

David Hunt came out fighting and to be fair had more of the first ten minutes than they had been able to get all of the first half but the team were determined and it was not long before a great run from El down the left wing and a decisive pass saw a well positioned Robbo another in to bag a brace.

Oscar soon afterwards coming more into the game did a brilliant run again down the left and it was met by Cam who with one of his trade mark left footers made the keeper make an amazing save to deny him his second.

Marlborough had more chances and were either prevented by some gallant defending or good goal keeping but the opponents did have some of the ball in the second half and but for great keeping a goal or two would have given them some heart.

Nathan continued to supply Cam and he maybe feels he should have got his second and Charlie playing hard and using his speed created chances for himself and the forwards.

One of these starting from the back with a pass from Ollie S ended up with Cam scooping his second after a bit of a scramble in the penalty area to make it 9-0.

A late right footed rocket from El made the keeper make another great save to stop them from getting into double figures. Connor also had a fine shot saved by the heroic David Hunt keeper just before the end.

A great team performance with all the squad getting a good run out and assisting in a well drilled, rounded football match they can build on.

Tired lads after playing on a boggy pitch with long wet grass making the pitch seem bigger for them but all left the pitch with happy faces.

Man of the match went to Robbo for his strength on the ball, two goals, solid defence and foraging runs in attack although it could have gone to several players today as is often the case.

Special mention to Will as it was his birthday the day before and the lads enjoyed administering the traditional Marlborough rover’s bumps!
