MBDA FC - CLUB HISTORY
20 Jul 2008

MBDA originated from the company 'The English Electric Company', which moved from Luton to Stevenage in 1955. More recognised as British Aerospace Defence (Dynamics) and Matra BAe Dynamics, it's based on the Gunnelswood Road Industrial Area of Stevenage.

Previously played home games at Sports Ground at Bragbury End under former 'guise, Bragbury Athletic, with 4 Saturday sides and this Sunday one which Sav Melis created around 1990.

Now acquired Barclay School as 'base', with whom MBDA as a company put a lot in, and we're thankful for the relationship.

After a poor couple of seasons after the turn of the new Centry, the Club gained promotion to Division One of the Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League after finishing second in 2003/04.

Finished eighth out of ten in first season in Division One in 2004/05 thanks to four points from last two games.

Created an MBDA Reserves for 2005/06, finishing fifth in Division Three out of the eleven teams who started having been tenth in final game before Christmas. First-Team finished superbly aswell to finish third out of seven teams - having beaten all four teams who didn't complete the season in Division One.

In 2006/07, the Reserves didn't do themselves justice by finishing seventh in Division Three. However, a magnificent season for the First-Team saw them finish runners-up and gain promotion to the Premier Division!

2007/08 saw the First-Team break away and take up sponsorship from the Marquis Of Lorne, then DC Out Bar a few months later. The existing Reserve side became "MBDA", and played in Division Three, one from the bottom. Finished 5th out of 9, had some excellent wins, none more so than a 1-0 win over champions ProCladd. Unbeaten away in the league!

2008/09 was the most successful in the history. Runners-Up in Division 3 and a first-ever Cup Final. An opening day defeat cost the title as a 3-2 double over champions Stevenage Fencing still left us two points short. A wonderful run in the Invitation Cup culminated in a Final at Hitchin Town FC, where we went down 3-2 to Probuild Reserves, despite leading twice.

2009/10 has seen the installment of a new manager, Darren "Statto" Jones has taken the reigns in the hope of becoming the first managerin the Clubs' history to bring silverware...as 2009 ended, just one defeat in all competitions was experienced, we hope 2010 will be successful...

The team is funded by the MBDA Sports & Social Club, the squad is predominantly made up of MBDA employees, who are Sports & Social Club Members. The external players are Affiliated Members. We thank the S&SC very much for their magnificent support, especially Richard West and Jane Brewer.
