INTRODUCING OUR 'A' SIDE |
Michelmersh & Timsbury FC have enjoyed a long association with the Southampton League, running three sides. The 1st XI playing in either Senior 1 or 2 with the Reserves and 'A' teams playing in Junior football.
In 2002 the club were finding it tough going and decided to merge with their friendly Hampshire League neigbhours Awbridge who were experiencing similar promblems.
The new club became known as M&T Awbridge. The two old Awbridge Hampshire League sides became the 1st and 2nd teams whilst the old Michelmersh Southampton League sides became the 'A' and 'B'Sides.
2002/03 was a reasonable success for the Southampton League sides as both teams finished mid-table in Senior 2 and Junior 3 respectively as they passed several players onto the senior sides but after an exodus in 2003 the following season was a dour struggle and both sides were relegated.
In 2004 the 'B' team became the Veterans XI whilst the 'A' team were placed in Junior 3. Sadly the new 'A' team continuted to struggle and by 2006 were playing in Junior 5 where they have since consolidated.
Running a 3rd XI at any club is never easy but the lads are hopefull of an over-due improvement this year with main emphasis as ever being on enjoyment rather than winning at all costs!
