M&T CLUB HISTORY (23/08/06)

Michelmersh & Timsbury FC were formed in 1928 and spent their early days playing friendly fixtures before joining the Eastleigh League in the early 1930's, where they remained until 1957 when the club ceased playing for a spell.

In 1960 the 'Marsh reformed and a year later began their long association with the Southampton League. Here they slowly climbed up through the Junior ranks to reach the Senior section in 1977, where apart from one season back in Junior 1 (1983/84) they have always remained, frequently alternating between Divisions 1 and 2. The club also fielded Reserve and 'A' sides in the Junior section.

The Youth section of the Sports club always provided plenty of new recruits for the adult sides but despite having splendid facilities at their home ground at Timsbury Rec, Mannygham Way the club frequently stuggled to hold on to their better players with many Hampshire League clubs on their doorstep.

By the 2001/02 season, the club were finding it tough going as although the 1st XI had done well in Senior 2 the Reserves were relegated from Junior 2 and the 'A' side had been disbanded.

Neighbours Awbridge, (founded in around 1904) a long running and (since 1968) a respected Hampshire League club were struggling with the lease of their Village Hall Field ground and as the two clubs had developed very close links over the years the decision was made to amalgamate in May 2002.

The new club was called M&T Awbridge and ran four Saturday sides. The two old Awbridge Hampshire League sides became the 1st and 2nd sides whilst the two old M&T Southampton League sides became the 'A' and 'B' teams respectively. In 2004 the 'B' side became the clubs Veterans side.

In 2006 the club amended its name back to simply Michelmersh & Timsbury. Sadly, the Awbridge name is no more after at least 102 years but the current side will never forget their links and hope to emulate their success in the future.
