CLUB HISTORY
OVERVIEW OF THE THE HISTORY OF MIDDLESEX UNITED (07/09/08)

The original idea of forming a football club came while Daniel Adamski was watching a pre-season football match between Brentford and AFC Wimbledon, at Griffiin Park with a friend.

The club however, took a while to take off, but, in February 2005, Adamski approached his friends Matthew Lister and Tom Thorp about the idea of the club and the foundations began to be built, Sam Smith and Lewis Francis, among other, joined the club for the first training session, held at St Dunstans park in Feltham, the club soon moved and began training at the Ashford Recreation Ground, where summer training still takes place.

The club adopted the nickname of the Spitfires due to the many RAF air bases located in Middlesex during World War Two.

The Spitfires entered a 5-a-side leagues, until, in September 2006, with many more players on board, they entered the West Fulham Sunday Football League, the clubs first season of 11-a-side football proved largely unsuccessful, seeing more than 35 players wear the club’s colours.

Due to huge financial obstacles the club was forced to withdraw from the league and revert back to playing 5-a-side football.

In total more than 50 players have worn the club colours at some point in Middlesex United’s history.

The Spitfires have also been active in the local community, taking part in the “Towpath Trundle 2006”, an 8 mile charity walk to help raise funds for the Princess Alice Hospice in Chertsey.

The club also attended the Englefield Green Village Fair in the summers of 2006 ands 2007, the club ran a stall, a tombola and penalty shootout games to raise funds for the club.

The club was to be called Ashford United F.C.

FEBRUARY 2005 (26/07/07)

Middlesex United is born!!!!!

The decision was made to change "Ashford United" to "Middlesex United" so that the name would incorporate all the areas that the players were from.

Living near Heathrow which was cruical to Britain's air defences in WW2 the club soon adopts the nickname "the spitfires".

Middlesex United started training Sunday mornings in the park accross the road from "The Three Horseshoes" pub in Feltham before moving down the road to "The Ashford Recreation Ground" on Chattern Hill Road, Ashford.

The club were given a massive financial boost when London based Architectural Services company, Hazan Smith and Partners donated over Ł300. Terry Smith of Hazan Smith and Partners joined the players at training and presented the money to the squad.

The money ensured Middlesex United were able to affiliate with the Middlesex FA and also join a league, something that would not have been possible otherwise.

Chairman/Manager Daniel Adamski at the time said "Everyone at the club is very very thankful to Hazan Smith and partners for helping us in this way, thanks to this money the future for the club looks a lot rosier than it had done previously, we will do all we can to repay the faith Hazan Smith and Partners have shown in Middlesex United Football Club, I would also like to thank our committee member Sam Smith for all he has done to help with this deal".

20th March 2007 (26/07/07)

After a season where the club struggled both on and off the pitch, at a committee meeting it was decided the club would withdraw from the West Fulham Sunday Football League and revert back to playing five-a-side football in a bid to stabilise the club, both in terms of finances and players.

The following day the club released the following statement;

"Yesterday, Tuesday 20th March 2007, it was decided unanimously by the committee that due to the club being in a considerable amount of debt, and the huge costs involved, that Middlesex United Football Club is to withdraw from the West Fulham Sunday Football League.

Our season has now finished and we successfully fulfilled all our scheduled fixtures.

One of the main reasons that the club has been forced into this decision is the unwillingness of many players to pay the basic subs required for the club to be viable, as stated the decision was unanimous, however, I would like to stress that it was not an easy decision, but, all members of the committee realise that this is the best for the club.
The committee also decided that the club will continue playing, we shall be entering five-a-side leagues through the summer and next winter.

Obviously, this means we will have more players than necessary to compete in a five-a-side competition.

So, in the next few days, the management team will meet and will decide which players we shall be asking back.
We shall only be selecting players we are confident will continue to pay their subs and will be committed to making the club a success.

The club is not completely stopping its eleven-a-side endeavours, merely, putting them on hold while the club rebuilds.

During the summer we will be undertaking numerous fundraising drives, players who fail to assist their team mates in this will not be playing for the club, it's time that our players realise that to play for Middlesex United who have to work for and be dedicated to Middlesex United.

It may not be easy, but, in the long run it will be worth it, we will re-build and get the team spirit that we used to have back.

I would like to thank the West Fulham Sunday Football League, Hazan Smith and Partners and all the people who have contributed time, money, advice and support to the club this season. It is greatly appreciated and not forgotten.

When it has been confirmed, we will announce which players will be part of the new Middlesex United"

12th May 2007. (26/07/07)
