An experimental United side went down 3-0 against Premiership side FC Royals.
With United all but out of the cup manager Dave Ballard used the game to give Sam Smith and Ken Kingham their first starts of the season while Alec Kavanagh made his long awaited debut.
Dec Saunders started in goal and Chris Godwin played having missed most of the season through injury meaning only Steve Tyson, himself recently back from injury was the only regular player in the side.
United brought on reinforcements of Marc Fleckney, Dan Adamski and Andy Neale but a man of the match performance from Smith with Saunders a close second saw the "regulars" overshadowed.
