The club was formed in 1963,playing football matches against other teams in our area.In 1969 the S&DJFL was formed and Middlewood Rovers entered teams shortly afterwards.As boys
junior football grew,professional clubs realised the potential in creating links with these boys clubs.Middlewood Rovers became the offical nursery team for Sheffield Wednesday,playing their games at the SWFC training ground and it was not long before our former young players were playing for Sheffield Wednesday.
This association continued until 1983,when the F.A, implemented academies within proffesional clubs.In 1984 ,the
club moved to its current home on Waverley Lne,Handsworth .
The club has continued to grow, gaining F.A. Charter Standard staus in 2007,winning County Club of the year in 2008 and 2009.A girls football section was started in 2007with more teams being added each year.
Over the years .Middlewood Rovers have coached many young players who have become proffessional footballers,the most famous being Mel Sterland who became the first ex-Middlewood player to be capped by England.
