CLUB HISTORY
Club History (23/09/06)

The Club was founded in 1960 by Leonard Fleming and originated as a break away team from Ravensbury FC. The Club took its’ name from the area on the outskirts of Orpington where the first home ground was situated. Players in those early years were drawn from St Mary Cray, Orpington, Swanley and the surrounding areas.
During the 1960’s the Club was a major force in local football and in 1966 saw its greatest achievement to date in reaching the final of the London FA Cup. The cup has over 150 teams entering each year and is open to senior amateur clubs in the London area. Victory in the final eluded Midfield, going down 5-3 to Streatham Hill FC.
During the 1970's the management of the Club was taken over by Roy Fleming - the brother of the founder who successfully managed two senior teams and a youth side. In 1980 he left Midfield to concentrate more fully on youth football.
Since the current committee assumed control in 1979 much emphasis has been placed on establishing links with overseas Clubs and organising trips throughout Europe. During the last 25 years numerous tours have been arranged to Holland, Germany and France as well as visits to similar Clubs in the UK.
In 1996 the Club withdrew from the Metropolitan League to join the Orpington & Bromley League. This move brought about two major benefits; firstly the standard of opposition and the quality of football saw an immediate improvement and secondly the standard of pitches improved significantly, with the majority of member teams playing at private grounds. The same year saw Midfield move to its current home the HSBC Sports Ground. Formerly the training camp of the England national squad, the ground is fully equipped with a gymnasium, fitness room, sauna and restaurant. The club is rightfully proud to play its home games at such a prestigious venue.
Midfield FC is a well-equipped Club and enjoys active sponsorship from Sevenoaks based company Tower Marketing who have provided all playing equipment for the past 10 years. With a strong squad of over 30 players and a dedicated and enthusiastic committee, the Club is now poised to move on to greater things. Our aim of achieving Senior Division status was realised in 2003 and in 2006 our ambitions were surpassed with the superb achievement of lifting the Senior Division Trophy followed by the Charity Shield.
The Latin inscription on the Club's badge - 'Progredior' [meaning to advance or progress] has, it would seem, never been more appropriate.
