2012-13 Season-The Magic continue's
28 Feb 2013

The season has now finished and the cup final taken place and I thinks its a good time to reflect on our season.

After making history last year on winning the League and by the biggest margin and winning our first tournament it was always going to be difficult in beating that.
I am so pleased on how we have acquitted ourselves in this very demanding Grenville league, where the best teams in Plymouth compete every week and any weakness in your team gets cruely exposed. Our amazing 6th position in the League does reflect how well we have done this season and it also reflects how much we have improved, At one stage we reached the dizzy heights of 3rd and have ended many a team's asperations of wining the league. We managed to beat team that we have not been able to do in our history, Tamerton, Both Saltash teams Utd and Youth, Keyham, Activate and our local rivals Plymstock ! a total of 12 wins and a draw finishing up with a total of 37 points. In many of our games we have been the under dog and against all odds we have not only gained league survival we have flourished, Our wins have not been flukes and have been well deserved. Respect is earnt not given and I hope teams now respect us that little bit more after beating them fairly and squarley, A good examlpe was our local rivals Plymstock who just expected to stroll up and "skin us" only to lose 3-1 at home.
All our players have done extremely well this season and there are several who have conquered this league and who's standards are outstanding and are breathtaking to watch. An excellent example is Josh who was voted by all our opponents (11 teams)to be the sportsman of the division and has won the Fair play player of the division, what a honour, and I am sure he would be the first to congratulate his team mates in helping achieve this.
I am delighted also to have played with our compete team (14) in every game (when available)and every player has played a significant part in every game. I have alwayes played our sub's and will continue to do so for at least half a game, unlike many, many of our rivals who train and coach players but will not play them ?

This season has been very demanding but also very rewarding and I am so pleased how well we have done, Parents and players have an equal role in this and they are second to none.
The retainer will be out soon and sadly not all our players will resign, Hopefully we can attract players who can reach there potential with us and are willing to try 100%, One or two friendly hard working players are all that is needed, we have shown an interest but not sure what the outcome will be.

Overall an outstanding season and one in which every player should be very proud of there performance.
Well done.

2011-2012 Season
20 Apr 2012

To make magic happen you have to believe in it !

Wheir do i begin, I guess at the beginning !
After the 2010/11 season was complete it was hard to take a positive from a very challenging year, We had lost 17 games, drawn 2 and won only 3, at some games we had played well but came up a little short, but at most we were out played. We were relegated by just one point and looking back it probably was the best thing that could of happened.
Nine players chose to stay with us and we were joined by four amazingly talented, hard working players who's passion is football. First was Cameron from WMOV then Morley's Messi, Josh from Lipson, Next up was our Captain Luke and finally the talented Ashley, both from SB frankfort. I had known we had a good team of nine but never in a million years would I have guessed that by introducting these four players would have such an infleuence on not only the team but me as a manager, Each of the four had all asked to join us at Morley and none were poached from there team's.
I had learned many lesson's from the previous season and wanted again to enjoy my football and pass this enjoyement on to my team, I still look upon football as my son James, playing with his friends, but had to add discipline, skill and FUN above all, winning or losing, football should be fun.
I would like to think that we have given our players the opportunity to demonstrate how good they are and shown them how to unlock there potential, I have had to make difficult decisions, but now the players are getting older and are making there voices heard I find it best for them to work out these problems for themselves and give them the responsibility for them to make the changes. Discipline to me is a big factor both on and off the pitch and when the chips are down and things are not going your way we can rely upon this, We win as a team and lose as a team.
Our pre season games were poor to say the least, out of the three, we lost two and drew one, not good by anybodies standards. We continued to work hard and gel as a team and our new players were getting used to playing in there new postions that they had wanted to play and were never given an opportunity before.

Our first game of the season was an evening game away to Railway Beacon and to say I was nervious was an understatement , Railway have always been a good team and well managed by Larry and being told that they have had a good pre-season did not help my nerves. We won and won well 6-1, Josh with three and three other scorers, Jamie,Mark and Ash, The team played with real belief and confidence it was incrediable and we were top of the league, a position in which we stayed all season apart from one week due to being three games behind Callington Colts. It was the my first game that the sub's that were brought on were as good as the players brought off, and what adifference that makes. We continued to make progess and it felt as each week in training we all learnt a little more, Not only were we defending well, we were scoring well and from different players, Josh, Ashely, Luke and Cameron all brilliant and the nine players from last season the originals all again brilliant.
Every week and every team you play is a different challenge and although things have not gone all our way this season, defeats to Elburton, Woolwell and Railway Beacon in the semi-final was disappointing, all 1-0. I do think if channelled in the correct way a defeat can help you, Its makes you appreciate winning more and make you realise attitude is everything and unless you give it your best, team's well organised will beat you. I was gutted to lose to Larry's team in the semi-final we all were but full credit to them they played better on the day, we did get our revenge two week's later in the league and beat them 5-1, and we all wish them well in the final against Callington Colts.
Last week's game in which we beat Callington 7-2 away, confirmed that we had won the league, what an great achievement by all the team. I have involved with Morley for over six years and this has been a very proud moment for me and my family, I have had so much help from many people in advice and information about football. Simon my co-manager and good friend has been with me on the journey and without him none of this could of happened .
I have met some really great managers this season who I enjoy there company and wisdom and are far more talented than I will ever be, but I have experienced some managers who I question why they are doing this and parents for letting them constantly run down there children.
We have three games remaining this season and hopefully we can play like league winners but who knows, if we get are attitude right we can compete and make a game of the remaining fixtures, I would like to finish the season winning our remaining games and we will try our best.
As always the team did not disappoint, winning the last three remaining fixtures and finishing the season 18 points ahead of the second place team, The highest margin in any age group in any league, Brilliant

I am looking forward to next season playing the best teams in the DJM and I think we are in a much better position than we were two years ago. The outlook is bright for us, If the team stays together, On our day we can challenge most teams and compete well.

We do have a small squad with only 13 players and I would like to increase this to 14, but with the 13 players we have, they all have been exceptional and have deserved to win the league. We will all have a nice summer break, recharge the batterys and look forward to next season.
Well done to our Brilliant team:- James, Tom, Luke, Sam T, Andy, Cameron, Lucas, Josh, Adam, Jamie, George, Ashley and Sam K.
